Here's what's happening in Southeast Colorado:

Updated: May 9

(Otero county, CO) --At least one tornado was spotted in Otero county on Tuesday afternoon. Jake Erlich farms and caught a funnel on video. Erlich stated that it appeared to try and pull up and then down back down again. Other confirmed tornadoes were spotted in Kiowa County and another listener sent us a photo from a small tornado in Lincoln County.

(Las Animas, CO) -- Tuesday night, the Las Animas City council called a special meeting to take care of some housekeeping. After the cancellation of Santa Fe Trail Days activities it meant the street would no longer need to be closed. However, Ray Torrez of Torrez Sports bar had applied for a special license to hold a beer garden outside. The option to get his 350 dollar fee back was offered. Torrez told council he would rather go ahead with plans to have a beer garden for the weekend. The council approved an area for the beer garden. The Bent County Art Guild is still hosting the art show for Santa Fe Trail Days. The other activities are off. The longest running student led festival was cancelled this year due to cases of covid in the schools.

(Colorado) -- New data from state health officials may point to some community-level protection when it comes to COVID-19 vaccinations. The stats released yesterday focus on the ten largest counties in Colorado. The numbers show lower amounts of infections in areas with higher vaccination rates. Boulder, Denver, Jefferson and Larimer counties are among the lowest when it comes to the seven-day case rate. Those areas also have more than 50-percent of the population vaccinated. Pueblo and El Paso counties have the highest case rates and have under 45-percent of the population vaccinated.
